Somebody is already travelling from Rotterdam to Amsterdam this afternoon. Your shipment goes with them, in a bag, on a seat that was booked either way. No second vehicle is sent.

Why now
Why this is worth doing now.
This is not a projection about somewhere else. Heat was associated with more than 62,000 deaths across Europe in the summer of 2024: this continent, in a single season. The reason to act on it now rather than later is that the cost is already being paid.
Road transport produces 73% of Europe’s transport emissions. That is the part a logistics decision touches. Roam is one small lever on that number, and we would rather pull it than not. Nothing on this page claims it is more than that.

The goals
Three of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals describe what this model is built to be good at.
- Goal 11Sustainable Cities and Communities
- Every city runs a transit system at a fraction of its capacity. Roam treats that spare capacity as infrastructure, which is also why it only works where the buses and trains do.
- Goal 12Responsible Consumption and Production
- The empty space in a bag on a journey someone is already taking is a real resource. Nobody has ever been able to buy or sell it, so it goes to waste by default. Roam gives it a price and a place to change hands, which is all it takes to stop wasting it.
- Goal 13Climate Action
- The only emission Roam can honestly claim is one that never happened. There is no offset here and nothing bought to cancel anything out: either a vehicle was sent for your shipment, or it was not.
How this differs
Traditional logistics gets efficient by filling a vehicle. We get efficient by not sending one.
Economies of scale
Fill the vehicle better
Traditional logistics gets cheaper and cleaner per parcel by consolidating enough of them to justify the vehicle. It still starts by putting a vehicle on the road.
Network density
Do not send one at all
Roam’s efficiency comes from its community. It does not depend on volume. It depends on somebody already going your way.
This is why we turn work away. If nobody is already travelling a route, matching it would mean paying somebody to make the trip on purpose, and the advantage disappears.
